For some reason, there is a common myth that koi and goldfish cannot be kept together in the same pond because the goldfish will get the koi sick.

Sorry, but carp are carp. Yes, koi and goldfish are BOTH carp cousins and carry 100% of the same disease. Some viruses, such as koi herpesvirus, also known as KHV, can be carried in both koi and goldfish, but only koi will die from the virus.
